WELLNESS IN RAMADAN

Ramadan Mubarak to our lovely Spa Ceylon Family, and welcome to our very first blog post! This month we will be talking about Wellness in Ramadan, and how we can use this month to rest and rejuvenate our minds, bodies, and souls. Here, we will be sharing a few tips on how we can best utilize this time for ourselves and sharing some vital skincare tips as well!

It may sound obvious to say hydration is important, but at times our most obvious needs are the very ones we tend to ignore. This period of fasting can be challenging, especially for those who are living in hot and dry climates, as it can lead to dehydration, fatigue, and other health issues.

The most common question we get is, how can I tell whether my skin is dehydrated or not? Dehydrated skin and dry skin are inherently different things. Dry skin is caused by a lack of natural oils. Dehydrated skin is caused by a lack of water, it reveals itself through itchiness, dullness, under-eye circles, sunken eyes, and/or more noticeable fine lines. Your overall complexion may also appear uneven.

Before recommending any topical product or skincare treatment, we would advise you to follow our ethos: give your body love from the inside out. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water (8 glasses a day is the ideal old-school rule), and for Suhoor and Iftaar, incorporate foods that help you remain hydrated. Examples of these are cucumbers, bell peppers, cabbage, spinach, and melon.

If you want to incorporate a product into your skincare regime to boost hydration, check out our Sal & Saffron Ultra-Hydrating Facial Treatment Gel, from our brand-new Sal & Saffron range. This is a fast-action, extra-potent blend, infused with nourishing Sal Butter (cold-pressed butter obtained from the seeds of Shorea Robusta, also known as the Sal Tree, which is an excellent conditioner for skin and hair-restoring softness and elasticity) & precious Saffron to instantly hydrate, soothe dryness and minimize the appearance of pores. This gel also contains powerful four-dimensional Hyaluronic Acid which combines with ultra-nourishing Vitamin E & Virgin Coconut to help hydrate & instantly boost skin, adding a softer, smoother, more refreshed look.

Often when we are dehydrated, the most common symptom can be seen around our eyes. Usually, our eyes appear to look ‘sunken’ and the skin beneath our eyes tends to darken. The area below our eyes is the most sensitive part of our face and requires great care. Usually in Ramadan, a lot of us experience a lack of sleep or broken sleep from waking up for Suhoor. Make sure to take extra care in planning your sleep schedule so that you get a good eight hours of rest despite waking in the middle of the night. Our Sleep Calming Balm is something our clients swear by in their night routines. With potent blends of Lavender and Ylang Ylang, aromas that promote sedation and reduce anxiety, rubbing some of this balm on your pressure points before settling in for the night can help you drift off with ease.

Our Sal & Saffron Eye Zone Day & Night Treatment Concentrate is great if you want to give your eye area an added boost of hydration. Nourishing Sal Butter & precious Saffron help soothe & protect the skin around & under the eyes; while Virgin Coconut, Avocado & Wheatgerm help deep-hydrate, repair & energize delicate skin, minimizing the look of tiredness. Furthermore, the concentrate is infused with Powerful Daisy Flowers & Hawkweed to help calm & reduce puffiness around the eyes.

If you are planning to spend time outdoors during Ramadan, it is important to protect your skin from the sun. Applying sunscreen is important every single day, but even more so when your skin is already potentially dehydrated. Have a look at our Glow Activating Day Facial Protector, with triple UV sunscreens and natural minerals to help protect your skin from harmful sun exposure.

And finally, Ramadan is a time for all of us to slow down, reflect on our actions and work to incorporate healthy and fulfilling habits in our lives. It is a great time to break any habit that may be harmful to you, such as cigarette smoking, and create healthier ones! Perhaps try taking time in your day to meditate in silence. We would recommend starting small, incorporating just five minutes of meditation in your day, and then working your time up. Many yogis advise using aromatherapy in their meditation practice, and they do so for a reason. Many essential oils and fragrances can help soothe your senses and calm your mind to help you deepen your meditation practice. You can have a look at the selection we provide in our Home Wellness section.

We hope that this has been helpful to you and wish you a peaceful and happy Ramadan season. Do share how you are incorporating wellness into your life this month on our socials, and if you have any more questions, do feel free to reach out to our customer care!
